(C-READY) program is coordinated by the

situation, and have the opportunity to put what
they’ve learned to use in mock disaster exercises
throughout the week. The program has the goal of
teaching over 100 students the skills they need to
stabilize any injuries they may have suffered before
moving on to assist others during and after
emergency situations until professionals arrive.
Students will also learn to identify the hazards
most likely to occur and reduce potential hazards in
and around the home and school. They will receive
training in safety and injury prevention, first aid,
CPR, and the use of an automatic external
defibrillator. The program also teaches youth how to
respond to natural and
manmade disasters and develops their leadership
skills to affect change through higher education
after graduation. Youth will be encouraged to lead
community prevention efforts, increase their
interest in health and public safety careers, and
volunteer in their communities through service
learning projects.
C-READY is an adaptation of the
Wisconsin READY Camp
experience and will expand upon the
Disaster Ready Training that has already been
implemented by the Governor’s Office of Homeland
Security and Ready Colorado for middle and high
school students. The initial 5-day camp experience
is planned to be implemented in Eagle, Colorado July
18-22, 2011. Students, ages 13-18 years old, will
attend from across Colorado being escorted by
advisors. |
