The National Fire Incident
Reporting System (NFIRS)
defines a civilian fire death as any
non-fire service person that is injured or
killed as a result of a fire, including
injuries or deaths from natural or
accidental causes sustained while involved
in the activities of fire control,
attempting rescue, or escaping from the
dangers of the fire. People who die within
one year because of injuries sustained from
the incident are also considered a fire
death.
