Gov.
Hickenlooper Orders Flags Lowered for National Fallen
Firefighters Memorial Service
DENVER — Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 — Gov. John Hickenlooper today
ordered flags be lowered to half-staff on
all public buildings statewide on Sunday,
Oct. 16, in observance of the 30th
Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial
Service. Flags should be lowered from
sunrise to sunset.
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation
and the Department of Homeland Security's
U.S. Fire Administration will honor 72
firefighters who died in the line of duty in
2010. Seventeen firefighters who died in
previous years will also be honored.
Fire departments across the country will
conduct simultaneous services, lower flags
to half-staff and observe a moment of silent
tribute. |

Response to IAFC's Proposed Changes to NFPA 72
On Friday, January 14, 2011, the CSFCA Board of Directors
heard a presentation by David Lowrey in his capacity as
President of the Fire Marshal Association of Colorado (FMAC)
on FMAC’s opposition to the IAFC’s proposed changes to NFPA
72. FMAC requested that the CSFCA support their position on
the proposed changes.

Special Assessment Approved to
Balance 2011 CSFCA Budget
At
the CSFCA Annual Meeting held on December 2, 2010 in
Keystone, CO, the members assembled approved the
2011 Budget for the Association which had been
recommended by the Board of Directors.

USFA Releases
Provisional 2010 Firefighter Fatality Statistics
EMMITSBURG, MD — The United States Fire
Administration (USFA) announced today there were 85
on duty firefighter fatalities in the United States
as a result of incidents that occurred in 2010, a 6
percent decrease from the 90 fatalities reported for
2009.

Solutions in Home Fire Sprinkler
Systems-Phase II Final Report Issued
NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of
Sprinkler Systems, has included guidance on
the use of antifreeze solutions in fire
sprinkler systems since the 1940 edition.
Recent fire incidents, analysis of available
literature, and preliminary testing have
identified concerns with the use of certain
antifreeze solutions.

Influence Saving Lives and Property
WASHINGTON D.C. –
April 28, 2010 -
A landmark study issued today by the U.S.
Department of Commerce's National Institute
of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows
that the size of firefighting crews has a
substantial effect on the fire service's
ability to protect lives and property in
residential fires.
