Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program


AFG makes available competitive grants for equipment, training, firefighter and first responder safety and response vehicles. AFG applications are automated and accessible via the AFG web site: www.firegrantsupport.com. This website contains important information on the AFG, including the FY 2007 funding priorities and program guidance, a web-based tutorial on the application process, a listing of frequently asked questions, and other materials.


Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Provider Grants Program

 

Supports Colorado EMS agencies with patient care and transportation services. There are 10 grant categories available including vehicles, training, communication, data collection, EMS equipment, recruitment/retention, injury prevention, defibrillation, extrication equipment, and other. You may apply in a maximum of two categories.

The Federal Excess Personal Property (FEPP) program refers to Forest Service-owned property that is on loan to State Foresters for the purpose of wildland and rural firefighting.

Homeland Defense Equipment Reuse Program

Department of Homeland Security, Office of Grants and Training

 

Emergency responder agencies can acquire, at no charge, radiological detection instrumentation, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), e.g., Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and turnout gear, and safety, response and recovery equipment, vehicles, and apparatus through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Grants and Training (G&T) Homeland Defense Equipment Reuse (HDER) Program.

Rural Access to Emergency Devices Grant Program

The Office of Rural Health Policy's Rural Access to Emergency Devices (RAED) Grant Program provides funding to rural communities to purchase automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and provide training in their use and maintenance.

Rural Emergency Responders Initiative

USDA Rural Development Housing & Community Facilities Programs

 

The Rural Development, through its community facilities program, provides funding for the Rural Emergency Responders Initiative to specifically strengthen the ability of rural communities to respond to local emergencies.  The community facilities program funds are used to support rural emergency responder efforts by financing needed equipment and services.  These funds are available to public bodies, non-profit organizations, and recognized Indian tribes.

Volunteer Fire Assistance Program

The Volunteer Fire Assistance Program (VFA), formerly known as the Rural Community Fire Protection (RCFP) Program, can provide Federal financial, technical, and other assistance to State Foresters and other appropriate officials to organize, train and equip fire departments in rural areas and rural communities to suppress fires.

Wildland Urban Interface Community Fire Assistance

 

To implement the National Fire Plan and assist communities at risk from catastrophic wildland fires by providing assistance in the following areas: Provide community programs that develop local capability; plan and implement hazardous fuels reduction activities; enhance local and small business employment opportunities for rural communities; enhance the knowledge and fire protection capability of rural fire districts on a cost share basis.
